Are siberian huskies good dogs to have?
I read at other places online that they are, but i wanted the opinion of an actual owner, so could any one please tell me in great detail a lot about their own dog, or anybody elses dog they know of?
I agree with the first answer, you can't EVER let them off of their leash, but that doesn't make them a bad dog to have. Huskies are wild at heart, and they will run, but they are also very lovable! They cuddle and kiss just like regular dogs. They are extremely intelligent and manipulative, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. My husky knows what I'm doing, thinking and feeling all the time. She is very intuitive and responsive to my needs. Huskies are excellent with children and other dogs, but NOT with cats. Huskies see cats as prey and cats see huskies as predators. If raised together they may get along, but I wouldn't recommend putting them together as adults. Huskies are by nature, working dogs. Give them a job to do and they're as happy as a clam! They MUST MUST MUST have room to run and play. They also love to go for long walks, and they need them too. Huskies shed heavily twice a year so they will need to be groomed during those times. They do not drool like other large breed dogs, so that's a plus. They are at higher risk for hip dysplasia and heart problems as they age, so that's something to think about. Husky puppes are extremely playful, and again, need a lot of exercise OUTSIDE otherwise they will tear up your house. They can be left outside for extended periods if weather permits. A fenced in yard would be fine for a husky since they aren't diggers. Um…..that's all I can think of now. E-mail me if you have any other specific questions.
I grew up with huskies and have 2 adult huskies now and I love them to pieces. They are truly an exceptional breed and once you have one you'll see why!
EDIT: What Genie said about barking I've found to be very true. My huskies NEVER bark. They don't bark at other dogs or people, they don't bark at night, in fact the last time I think my dog barked was a year or so ago when I was taking her for a walk at night and there was a possum standing in the middle of the sidewalk, and I think it just scared her more than anything. And even then it wasn't an obnoxious, loud bark, just a little growling. Also I agree about taking them for walks and everyone wants to pet them. I know this is an incredibly stupid reason to get a dog, but I think it's funny, I feel really cool when I'm walking them LOL! Really, I have these 2 GORGEOUS dogs walking perfectly straight next to me and I just feel so safe and well……..cool LOL. They really are beautiful dogs!

No. We have a husky mix and we can't trust him off leash. They shed and howl and can clear a 4' fence with no problem. They also have a lot of energy so they need lots of brisk walks.

I had one for 13 years. They are loyal, friendly, and loving animals. They have a strong will to escape, because they are roaming dogs. Mine got out at least 10 times, but we found her each time. I would just give it a lot of attention. They need regular brushing. They are smart dogs. Stubborn at times, but it is quite funny. They are a very good dog, I would get another one if I could. Lost mine to cancer. They live about 15 years.

I love my Siberian Huskys, they are great dogs, the only thing i've noticed about my Huskies, is that when there inside or in the backyard, they obey, but if they make it out the front door…. THERE OFF! they eventually make it back home but i always get worried since there such beautiful dogs, someone will take them, or the obvious they would get hit and killed.

Huskies are stubborn, and TERRIBLE in cold weather, but they are excellent with children, and are a very ideal size.

Yes! I love my husky, they are the most prettiest dogs ever, whenever you walk them everyone wants to stop and pet them. You can also tie a husky to a long rope so it can't jump a short fence or get an electronic fence. People say they are too energetic but that depends on the dog not all siberians are energetic. Mine is but me and my 4 other brothers and sisters always play with her and she gets plenty of excersice when tied up and walked. They are also great for hikes and for a good workout. Also some can't be trusted off leash but what dog can? Not a lot amount of dogs can be trusted off leash but Huskies can still be trained to come back with enough training. Huskies also won't shed as much as long as you give her baths everymonth or so and brush her 2-3 times a week which just takes a few minutes so its not tvery time consuming. Also Siberian Huskies are VERY clean dogs. Recently my Husky pooped in her cage and splattered and got covered with poop everywhere. When we took her outside she started to clean herself and by the end she was pretty much clean! Siberian huskies are also very tolerant and friendly, my 1yr old sister can't do anything to get her mad or get her to bark! Well at least mine never barks. Huskies are also very easy to train. My Husky almost knows the concept of being peeing and pooping outside just after having her for one week!
So yes, SIBERIAN HUSKIES ARE THE WAY TO GO!
and yes everyone says they may be a lot of work but all dogs are a lot of work and if you want a dog you have to have the love, committment and time to take care of one.
Hope this helps =]

hi,
The Siberian Husky is a beautiful breed with a thick coat that comes in a multitude of colors and markings. Their blue or multi-colored eyes and striking facial masks only add to the appeal of this breed, which originated in Siberia. It is easy to see why many are drawn to the Siberian's wolf-like looks, but be aware that this athletic, intelligent dog can be independent and challenging for first-time dog owners. Huskies also put the "H" in Houdini and need a fenced yard that is sunk in the ground to prevent escapes.

Not for everyone, this is a strong willed breed that dose not do well left unattended for long periods of time. This is a breed that needs a job not locked in a back yard, for those that work long hours or just live very busy lives this breed is not for them..
The Husky is a strong breed a working breed, they need allot of excesses. If you are thinking of getting a Husky I suggest you do all the research you can on this breed to make shure will fit you and your life style.
